Product Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1785-L11B is a standard PLC-5 processor. It provides 8 Kilowords of battery-backed static RAM. This memory stores user programs and data. The processor handles up to 512 I/O points total. It can use any mix of discrete or analog I/O. In complementary mode, it supports 384 inputs and 384 outputs. The backplane current load is 2.3 Amps at 5 Volts. It dissipates 12 Watts of power. The unit operates with 5 I/O chassis maximum.

Application Scenarios
This processor suits a wide range of industrial applications. Use it for control of manufacturing lines and processes. It integrates local and remote I/O modules. The DH+ network allows programming and monitoring. The remote I/O feature enables real-time data exchange. Typical uses include material handling, packaging, and assembly. It also works in batch processing environments. The PLC-5 controller provides reliable communication with operator interfaces.
Technical Specifications
The 1785-L11B includes one RS-232-C port on channel 0. This port supports ASCII, DF1 full-duplex, half-duplex master, and slave protocols. Channel 1A has an 8-pin mini DIN connector. It can be configured as a remote I/O scanner or adapter. The remote I/O scanner reads and writes I/O data to remote devices. In adapter mode, the controller monitors local I/O while communicating with a supervisor. The DH+ link on channel 1A supports data transfer to other PLC-5 controllers. Configure all devices at the same transmission rate. The maximum cable length is 3048 meters at 57.6 kbits/s. The front panel has a three-position key-switch. Positions are RUN, PROG, and REM. The RUN mode enables outputs and allows forces. The PROG mode disables outputs for program editing. The REM mode offers remote program, test, or run sub-modes. The processor has a memory module slot for EEPROM backup. Compatible modules include 1785-ME16, -ME32, -ME64, and -M100. The I/O scan time per rack depends on speed: 10 ms at 57.6 kbits/s, 7 ms at 115.2 kbits/s, 3 ms at 230.4 kbits/s. The total analog I/O capacity is 512. The control coprocessor expansion port is available.

Installation & Maintenance Guide
Install the processor in a designated slot of the PLC-5 chassis. Ensure the backplane power supply can provide 2.3 Amps at 5 Volts. Set the key-switch to the desired mode before power-up. For normal operation, turn the key to RUN. Use PROG to create or modify programs. The REM position allows online changes. Monitor the indicators: BATT (red when low), PROC (green run, red fault), FORCE (amber when forces enabled), COMM (green communicating). If the battery indicator lights, replace the battery within one year. Use the memory module to backup the program. To transfer, ensure the processor is in PROG or REM mode. Check communication status with the COMM LED. If faults occur, examine the PROC LED and use programming software to read error codes. Keep the processor clean and dry.
